Kurt's Medical Expenses

My friend Kurt was riding his bike when he was hit head on by a car driven by someone with the minimum  insurance allowed.   The picture is how Kurt is supposed to look!   Not laid out in some hospital bed.
This is devastating as Kurt has been a competitive cyclist most of his life.  He trains six days a week amounting to between 400-500 miles per week.  He competes all over the country and usually goes to the Masters Nationals each year.  This year he won the Masters Southern Region Championships and was training to compete in the state championships.
He owns a small IT company that serves both end users and small businesses.   He is a huge animal lover - rescues greyhounds and has had up to six at one time.
As I said earlier, he was out training one morning when a car turned across three traffic lanes to make an illegal turn when he was hit head on.  His bike was destroyed, but thank God his helmet did it's job; otherwise he wouldn't be with us today..  His injuries include both shoulders being broken, three broken ribs, pulmonary contusion, partially torn Achilles tendon and a very large hematoma on his right hip.   To put him back together will take several surgeries which will put him out of work for four to six months.  Then there's rehab.   He has already dipped into his small retirement fund to pay a deposit of $24,000 so they would perform his first surgery.  Now the bills are rolling in from the first hospital he was taken to, then transferred to a trauma center, the X-rays, MRI's, CT scans, etc.

Kurt has always been very healthy.  Yes he has had a few scrapes with cars while riding, but they were small.  Since he owns a small IT company, he does not have an employer to supply health insurance and it was very expensive to get on his own.  He waited to see if Obamacare was going to work and see how much it was, so health insurance was lower on his priority list than it should have been.  SO, when this accident happened, he had NO HEALTH INSURANCE to help cover the bills.

Once he heals up from the first surgery, he will need to pay more money to continue the surgeries.  Since he works from home, he can do some things (one handed) dialing in to assist clients, but there is no way he can do all the work he needs to do to pay the mounting bills he is facing from this terrible accident.
He needs help now and if you could possibly help even a little, it would be very much appreciated.  We want him to have the best medical and rehabilitative care possible and get him back to the sport he loves.
