Kroeker Medical Fund

As some of you may be aware, our good friend and retired colleague Brian Kroeker and his wife, Maligne, have been in Italy for the last number of weeks to be with their son, Richard, who was seriously injured in an accident while there on vacation.  

Richard was initially admitted to a hospital in Naples with suspected head and spinal injuries and has since been transferred to a second hospital. He is expected to recover, but his injuries are serious and he will need back surgery in Canada. Currently Richard is awaiting transfer to Alberta.

 Brian and Maligne rushed to Italy to be by Richard's side and have been working diligently with local medical teams and Richard’s health insurance company. It has not been easy to obtain the information and support required to get Richard back home: at times the process has been complicated by red tape and complexity. However, the wheels are now in motion, and Richard will be transferred to a bed in Alberta soon.

As we send out our wishes and prayers for Richard’s recovery, we’d also like to do what we can for Brian and Maligne. They have no doubt incurred – and will continue to incur – a lot of personal costs throughout this family challenge. We are setting up this fund up to help offset some of their expenses and remove a bit of financial pressure so they can focus on what’s important: Richard’s recovery.
