Kim Evans is 52 years old and has worked as a nurse caring for others for 32 years.
She is a diabetic and developed an infection in her foot which would not heal. As a result, she had surgery in July of 2017 in which they had to remove her toe. After a few weeks of trying to recover, the infection spread through her foot which resulted in the doctors removing half of her foot and she spent two weeks in the hospital.
The next step is for them to put her in a Hyperbaric Chamber to aid in the healing of her foot to get rid of the infection. This next step is crucial and, unfortunately, is unable to happen due to her insurance company cancelling her insurance for non-payment of premiums because she is unable to work. The doctors are trying to work with the wound care unit but they do not know if they are willing to help due to the fact of her insurance being cancelled.
Kim has never been married and does not have any children. She spends her days in a wheelchair which is not conducive to her living situation as she lives in a small trailer in Kentucky. Her electricity was turned off because she is unable to work and pay bills. That has since been resolved .
Her medical bills have exceeded $150,000.00. Before the insurance was cancelled, they paid most of that however, now that her insurance has been cancelled, she will continue to incur additional medical costs. If the infection does not heal, the next step is to remove her leg at the hip.
We are not asking for a lot but would be extremely grateful if we could help Kim with her daily essentials which include rent and electricity. She has applied for Medicaid however, that is a long process and she needs help now.
