Miracle Kimmie! Kim is 36, and had a stroke on July 12, 2014. She managed to call 911 herself, and get to the ER. The next day, they did and MRI, and determined that she had had a broken artery near the brain stem, and the clots to heal it broke free, causing the stroke. By July 16, she had recovered enough that they sent her home directly from the ICU, to her parents’ house. At her parents’ house, she had several worse strokes in the middle of the night. . . that blood clot broke free. The ambulance took her to the ER, after her father found her. She was on a breathing machine for nearly 14 hours, and the MRI determined that she was much worse off this time. The Neurosurgeon was simply amazed that she survived, and deemed her a Miracle. With that miracle status, she has been recovering at a steady pace, and she is expected to have a full recovery - but will not be released early, like the first time. She was in ICU for 2 days, and the Neuro floor of the hospital for 4 days, and, like a miracle, she is already approved and ready to move tomorrow (July 22) to an inpatient rehab center connected to the hospital. There she will learn to walk, talk, read, and regain her memory. Kim was completely self-sufficient prior to these strokes. She owns her own small house, and a simple car. She has been working at her place of employment since 1997! She has some leave, and decent medical coverage, however, she is now incurring more expenses than she ever was able to save up enough to plan for. She will be in the rehab center anywhere from weeks to months. But she also has to cover the co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles for two ambulance transports, two ER visits, two ICU stays, and the Neuro Floor stay, and now the Rehab center. We are trying to get enough together to help cover a year of her normal expenses - so that she doesn't have to worry about that - when she runs out of leave, and has to start paying her own medical out of pocket.

Kim has a niece and nephew that are her biggest cheerleaders – and they are coached by her parents and sister. Kim has got to be one of the kindest souls out there. She would do just about anything for someone she knows is in need. Kim doesn’t ask for anything, and yet is constantly giving in return. She is a firm believer in homemade gifts – and all about crafting. If she can’t scrap it, sew it, crochet it, or even tat it – then she probably won’t give it as a gift! She is also very active with sports. She is on co-ed volleyball and softball teams – and is constantly doing 5ks and Mud/Obstacle course runs. And if you want to see someone who is willing to chop off all of her hair – because her niece wanted someone to do it with her – to donate to Wigs for Kids – she’s your gal. Now is a chance to give back to her.
