During The Big O in Eugene, Oregon, Canadian roller derby skater Kim Janna broke her leg during her last bout of the weekend. After posting a photo of the injury and receiving overwhelming support I reached out to Kim and asked her how she felt about me fundraising to help pay for the expenses she may have incurred due to the injury (medical, work hours lost and rehabilitation)
Kim was touched and did/will incur expenses, however, she suggested that we bring awareness to the Derbyverse about how expensive these injuries can get by creating a fund that we have decided to call the Kim Janna Derby Love Fund – Paying it Forward.
During this campaign, the goal is to raise the funds to help get Kim Janna get back on both feet without going broke and Kim has decided to take half of the funds raised and donate them to another injured skater via another funding campaign.
The hope here is to start a Pay it Forward fund that can keep building over time. To get information on eligibility please contact me or Kim (via Facebook) so that we can get you more information.
