Health Care for Kidney Transplant

Donation protected
I am a match to donate a kidney to my wife, Jeanne.  I asked my employer for 6 weeks off so I could donate a kidney.  The employer decided to terminate my position so I could focus on taking care of my wife.  The loss of income and healthcare before such a major event is devastating.

Funds raised will be used 100% for healthcare -- the cost of healthcare insurance, payments for out-of-pocket maximum for insurance, and prescription anti-rejection drugs after transplant that are not covered by Medicare or our insurance.

Currently, we do dialysis at home with the Next Stage System as shown in the picture.  I am so thankful for trained volunteers who donate a few hours a week to sit with my wife during dialysis.

Dialysis keeps the body alive, but over time toxins that the machine cannot remove build up and cause permanent damage.  The National Kidney Foundation recommends a transplant with less than 24 months of dialysis yields the best results.  Jeanne is at 20 months on dialysis and is on the transplant list at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.

I want to give my kidney to her soon so the kidney has the best chance of long-term (hopefully 15 - 20 years) of service.
