Hi my name is Sandy and I want to tell you all about an amazing person who I have had the privelage of knowing in my life. Her name is Kezza. Due to the need to keep her identity private I can't share a photo of her with you. Kezza is my husbands cousin, but more like a sister to me. She has had more than her fair share of ups and downs in life. She is a young woman of 43 years of age and the mother of three beautiful children.
Kezza has chondroblastic osteosarcoma stage 4in aggressive malignant cancer.
In august 2013 Kezza noticed a painful discomfort whilst sitting for any length of time. In November 2013 the aching felt like it was in her bone and worsened to not just whilst seated but whilst walking too. By December the pain was getting unbearable so she went to see a doctor. X-rays were taken and the results were possible osteochondroma. She was sent for a CT scan for better assessment. The CT scan revealed possible osteosarcoma. In January 2014 she seen a specialist and was sent for an MRI. The specialist said things did not look good and she went for an urgent biopsy the next day. When the pathologist results came back it said they were benign and they felt the cause could be a possible traumatic injury like a torn ligament. She was told to come back in 3 months for another MRI. In May 2014 she went for another MRI. When she seen the specialist he said I guess you are in as much pain as 3 months ago as the results had revealed a tumour. He explained that it would require surgery to remove the tumour, as it looks like cancer. In June 2014 she had surgery to remove part of the tumour plus some dead tissue about the size of a tennis ball. The tumour involved the sciatic nerve and arteries. They had to remove a muscle and could not find the end of one artery as it had been eaten by the cancer. A biopsy was sent to 3 different pathologists and 3 different results came back. In July 2014 the biopsy was sent to Sydney to be reassessed and the results were not good. She was then sent back to the surgeon and Chemo was started to try and shrink the tumour to allow for more surgery. She ended needing 3 rounds of aggressive chemo instead of 2 as the surgeon was not available for the month. In October 2014 she had another MRI and was told it was definitely cancer and was scheduled to remove the tumour and possible hip replacement if the cancer was not in the sciatic nerve, if it was then removal of leg. She had to undergo two surgeries days apart as more tumour was sighted and they needed her approval to not just remove her leg but also her whole hip right up to the groin. The wound then got infected and she had to undergo more surgery. A couple of weeks before Christmas 2014 she was given the devasting news that the cancer is terminal and they give her 6 - 12 months maximum. She was moved to a rehab hospital to adjust to life with no leg or hip. She saw the surgeon again on 5January 2014 and he suggested she try another round of a different chemo to possibly give her a little more time with her children one of which is still in school.
All Kezza wants is to be able to take her children away on a special trip with her to leave them some positive and loving memories of her. She is such a selfless person and deserves so much more out of life. Any donation would help.
