Ever since we met in 2009, we have been so lucky to have found each other and to lead lives where we can pursue our passions with the love and support of each other and of our friends and families. It's always been our dream to share the happiness we have with a son or daughter. And although we are so lucky to be surrounded by a beaucoup of nieces and nephews, both biological and honorary, we haven't yet been able to make our dreams of becoming parents a reality.
We have been met with difficulties at every turn of this journey. We've experienced the systematic discrimination in the domestic and international adoption systems directed at same-sex parents. After finally finding a domestic adoption agency that seemed right for us, we had our hearts broken when it declared bankruptcy and shut its doors without warning. In that moment, we lost around $15,000 and the year and a half of our lives that it took to be certified. When we pursued private adoptions and foster-to-adopt programs, we met even more disappointment, including a number of scams that thankfully didn't result in the loss of more money, but certainly led to the loss of more faith.
Throughout this process, we've never considered surrogacy a viable option because of the high costs associated with it. Now, however, it appears to be our only option. Even with all of our savings, we don't have the money necessary to make this process a reality, which is why we are asking for your help.
Please consider donating to help us become parents through surrogacy. Any bit that you can offer helps. To give you an example of some of the costs of surrogacy, here are just a few of the fees we'll need to pay:
$17,000 - The costs related to an egg donor and all of the medical procedures this process entails
$15,000 - The costs related to In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and the transfer of the embryos to the surrogate
$30,000 - The minimum base compensation for a gestational surrogate
$25,000 - The fee paid to the surrogacy agency
These are just the most expensive of the costs associated with becoming parents through surrogacy. And there are actually quite a few more. We would be incredibly grateful for any bit you could donate to help us become parents. In addition, please share this campaign with your friends and family.
