Dear Family and Friends,
If you don’t know me personally, my name is Haley Knight, and I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of Kerith Ministries in Uganda. I am currently staying with the founder of this ministry, Pastor Sam and his wife Mercy, who have welcomed me into their home for the next seven weeks. In that time, we are hoping to raise enough money to pay for a 4.5 acre plot of cropland, adjacent to a wetland that can irrigate crops even during dry seasons. Thse crops would provide a year-round foodsource for the children that Kerith Ministries supports and could be sold back to the surrounding community to generate a means of income for the ministry.
Kerith was founded in 2009 in Pallisa Town, Uganda and works to support children’s rights through a holistic Gospel that provides education to disadvantaged children and food the needy, regardless of faith, sex, color, tribe, or nationality. Kerith’s main campus is comprised of an oprhange that is home to 30 children, a school attended by 76 children, and a clinic that is used by all of the surrounding community. Children who attend the school are only asked to pay for the price of books, and community members who use the clinic are only asked to pay for the drugs needed to treat them. Many people cannot even afford this, so Kerith pays for anything they cannot in addition to the teacher/clinic staff salaries. In addition to this work on the main campus, Kerith also funds the educational costs and food related costs of several at-risk children attending two affliate schools within the srrounding community. At present, there is a population of 220 children that are at least partially supported by this minsitry.
The total amount needed to purchase this land is $3,800, but with the 8% fee associated with GoFundMe, the amount we are seeking is $4100. Within the last year, becuase of an unusually long dry season the Pallisa community has faced unprecedented famine and poverty. During this time, crops dried up leaving families to either spend all of their money on food that has dramatically raised in price, or starve. With the purchase of these croptlands, resistant to even the longest of dry seasons, both the children of Kerith and the surrounding community will be supported. On behalf of these wonderful people, I implore you to donate, even if only something small. Any donation to this seven-week fundraiser will help to build a sustainable future for years and years to come for this amazing community.
