We are collecting donations to help beloved pediatrician, Dr. Ken Zwergel, with his battle with ALS.
Dr. Zwergel was diagnosed with ALS in December 2017. Since then, he has been unable to work. He has limited use of his arms and legs, and his strength has diminished. Despite that, he remains in good spirits and his sense of humor is intact.
Funds collected will be used to pay for adaptive equipment, medical bills and care that is not covered by insurance. Paying for care and equipment that will improve Dr. Zwergels quality of life is our goal.
Dr. Zwergel has made a huge difference in the lives of children with with his kindness and expert care. We want to help him as much as possible during this tough time, by making his life with ALS better.
I have worked with Dr Z for more than 20 years, both at Queen City Physicians and Children's Hospital.
Dr. Z has asked me to manage the donations to this fund. Your donations are being transferred to a bank account opened for the purpose of paying expenses and making purchases that his insurance does not cover. We have enough funds to pay for a skilled health assistant to provide personal care for Dr Z twice a week. At my office we are researching adaptive equipment such as an Alexa possible paired with a Tecla for head control. We will also be able to pay for medical bills.
I would like to add that if anyone has time or skills to donate to Dr Z, please contact me. He LOVES company at home when his family has plans. He also likes to hear from patients and families. Cards and messages are welcome, and if you have something for him, and get it to me, I will hand deliver it to Dr Z and I will read it to him. He has some pictures drawn by his little patients hanging in his living room where he hangs out.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed, posted, or are thinking of Dr Z with your thoughts or prayers or good wishes. He is overwhelmed by all the love and support. I am overwhelmed as well, I have never quite realized until now how much a difference we all can make in each others lives.
