Hello and thank you for taking time to read my story.
My name is Kendal Davis and i am a 20 year old ballet and contemporary dancer. At the end of 2014 i will be graduating from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) with an Advanced Diploma in dance. This is the indication that it is time to begin expanding my experience to other parts of the world.
I began learning dance at the age of 3 in the small town of Northam, where i studied jazz, tap and the RAD ballet syllabus. When it came time to progress to a heavier dance schedule my family up and moved to perth and enrolled me in one of the most astounding schools for classical technique of the time, (Stevens Dance Academy, now known as Academie Etoiles). Over the past 17 years i have completed all RAD ballet exams, achieved my Solo Seal award, been the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships and have had the fortune of getting through to both the semi final round of the Macdonald's Scholarship in sydney and the final audition week of the Australian Ballet School.
WAAPA has allowed me to experience so many different styles of dance and to be involved with astounding choreographers. In july of 2014 I have been offered yet another amazing opportunity...
I am travelling to Europe to take part in the WDA Global Summit, an amazing international dance festival where a group of the 2014 WAAPA graduates will be performing a neo-classical work choreographed by Kim McCarthy.
It would be an absolute privilege to be involved in such a famous choreographic festival and to be immersed in the amazing european culture surrounding france. Of course i will make the most of my trip by travelling around europe, auditioning for ballet and contemporary companies and participating in workshops and secondments. This is the chance to expand my knowledge, tour an australian work in paris and to earn my place in an international company where i will become a paid classical or contemporary dancer.
But i need your help! As we all know, the costs to get to europe and complete an audition tour are incredible. Therefore i am asking for donations to help me on my way. I will of course keep everyone updated on my journey and my plans.
