So, here's the FULL run through from date of diagnosis (05/06/14) until today (07/1/14).

I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer on 05/06/14. I went in for abdominal pain that I couldn't shake for a couple of weeks. The doctor was pushing around on my abdomen and asked me if I felt pregnant (of all things!). Um, nope, had a tubal ligation 5 years ago. Blood work, urine and pelvic ultrasound came back that I had a mass on my right ovary. It was approx. 9.5" and 10lbs estimated. I was sent to an Oncologist; more blood work, CT scan and a surgery date was scheduled within 2 weeks. Unfortunately due to the size of the tumor, the Di Vinci method was not possible, so my entire abdomen had to be cut to remove it. I made the decision with the help of my husband and doctor to do a "radical" hysterectomy and leave only the good left ovary so I had my hormone supply. Just within the 2 weeks of discovery to surgery the tumor had doubled in size to 18" and 15lbs. During the surgery they did a small test area and said it was benign. Leg massagers, IVs, and staples! I now have a 12" cut from just below my sternum to 4 inchs (roughly) above my nether regions. 54 staples in total.

But by the day I was discharged from the hospital (3 days), the tumor had been sent off to the Pathologist, which came back saying it was Type 1a Stage 2 malignant Teratoma (if you have weak stomachs, don't look this up). I won't lie, I was pretty numb to the news. The whole 2 weeks really meant nothing to me. My mother had Breast Cancer and died when I was 15, so I was pretty much preparing myself for the last 18 years that I'd eventually hear the words, "you have cancer".

I am undergoing chemo now and have completed my first cycle and awaiting my last 2. The side effects suck; nausea, fatigue, TOTAL hair loss, etc.
