Kellan's Campaign - NICU Journey

Donation protected
Baby Kellan was born early at 28.5 weeks due to a medical emergency. Kellan's mother, Lauren, was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune blood clotting disorder that compramised the ability of the placenta.  Such disorders go undiagnosed until they present a medical emergency, during pregnancy complications for example.  The placenta limited baby's ability to grow and so, we met our little blessing early.

Luckily, Lauren followed her instinct that something may be wrong and sought emergency treatment. Because of this quick action and with the help of highly specialized medical treatment, both mom and baby are recovering.

Kellan is currently in Seattle Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), receiving the best care and fighting strong each day.  Kellan is making progress everyday.  He does require constant but minimal respiratory support, regular tube feedings from mom, and continuous IV nutrition.  He is monitored 24/7 and is kept in a cozy incubator at a balmy 80% humidity to help his skin mature.

Kellan celebrated his 1 week birthday on Sunday, and continues to hit developmental milestones early - impressing the doctors and nurses daily. Lauren is currently recovering at home.   Although the process for both mom and baby will be lengthy, family and friends have offered immense love and support.

As recovery continues, the Ferrell family will continue to face unexpected challenges along the way.  Lauren will continue to heal but will be very limited in her ability to work for the next few months.  The majority of Lauren and Casey's time will be spent supporting and bonding with Kellan in the NICU.  Premature babies often require an abundance of resources, time and special care to overcome their early arrival and continued development outside of the womb.

Lauren and Casey are seeking any additional support to meet their living, travel and medical expenses during recovery.  Completing renovations on a new home early and spending time in the NICU will be demanding.  Your contributions - especially financial, will allow Lauren and Casey to care for Kellan before and after he comes home. Your love and concern are a true blessing to this new family.
