My name is Patricia Roberts. I am a 72 year old artist struggling to get by in Baltimore, Maryland. Unfortunately, a mulititude of things have transpired that have made it difficult to survive. Due to a $2,790 property tax bill I am at risk of losing my home. The story of why I'm having difficulties paying is below:
In November of 2011 I was in an auto accident which resulted in severe injury to my right shoulder that needed surgery. I was unable to work until August of 2012. I was then diagnosed with rectal cancer and moved here for better treatment.
Right after the move to my house here in Baltimore, Hurricane Sandy hit and flooded my basement. However, my insurance wouldn't cover it wo I had to pay for repairs.
In December of 2012, I was in another accident and sustained injuries that still keep me from working, except from home, and my car was destroyed. January and February of 2013 I came down with pneumonia. April of that year, the company I was working for, off and on through all of this, closed the department I was working in.
From May of that year to August I began surgical and medical treatment for my rectal cancer. Late August I severely injured my right knee. It was discovered later that I had torn my meniscus. The required surgery for this injury was performed February 10th of this year. I will start physical rehabilitation on the 5th of this month. Things have gotten bad enough that I had to perform a debt consolidation to have any money.
In addition to the above, my daughter has been living with me since July of 2013 at my expense. My granddaughter was living with us but in August of tht year she moved into a better living situation with some cousins. Also, during November- January the clothes dryer died and a new one was needed and the wiring on the new(used) car also needed to be replaced, all of this out of my pocket.
