Hello everyone,
My name is Kaya Jones and I will begin my third year at Temple University in the Fall of 2018. As a student from Pittsburgh PA, it has been a privilege for me to study at this institution as a Political Science and Journalism double major, maintaining a GPA of 3.6. My career goal is to be a voice for the underrepresented through strategic communications and public advocacy. I currently work towards that goal by being involved on campus as a Parliament Representative for Temple Student Government, where I represent the student body of Klein College of Media and Communications. I am also an active member of Ignite Temple, a women led political organization. Lastly, I volunteer as a reporter for The World at Temple, a show broadcasted on Temple University Television which bridges the gap between the lives of national and international students on Temple's campus.
I was recently accepted into a study abroad program in Rome, Italy that will allow me to further pursue my goals of learning about public policy and specifically ways to better represent, the minority, such as people of color and women. Through this program I will have the opportunity to work amongst the Italian Parliament as an internship while still fulfilling my courses as a full time student. I will be able to travel to most of the surrounding European countries such as Spain, France, Amsterdam, Ireland and many more. Having the opportunity to learn about so many new countries and the way their governments work will not only help me academically but I will be experiencing cultures and traditions that many are unable to say they had. However, this trip will not be possible without a lot of sacrifice. I am receiving some financial-aid through my school, but it is still not enough.
This is why I am turning to you-- my family, friends, and communities who have supported my journey and growth for so many years. With your continued support, whatever it may be, it will financially contribute to my tuition, housing, flights and the many other expenses that come with studying abroad. If my goal of 10,000 is not reached all funds will be returned by request or used to support my Fall tuition. This opportunity could not have come at a better time, so please help make this once in a lifetime opportunity possible. Thank you for listening to my story.
