In November 2015 breast cancer invited itself into my life and turned my world upside down. After fighting for 11 months on a journey that took me through surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and curie-therapy I had an overwhelming desire to give something back.
I gave myself a mission - to buy a Bravery Bell for my chemo unit at St Louis hospital in Paris. I live 30km (18.6 miles) from the hospital so I thought it would be symbolic to walk that same distance and ask friends and family to sponsor me and raise money for the bell.
In November 2016, just 5 months after ending my treatment I walked the 30km (18.6 miles)distance with two amazing friends arriving to a warm welcome at the hospital and we raised more money than I ever expected.
I founded the charity 'Les Trefles du Coeur'.

I repeated the 30km in 2017 and raised more funds and continue to support the Breast Cancer unit.
On October 7th this year 2018 I am healthier and happier thane ever nd enjoying a new life in USA. But I continue to run the charity and support the Breast Cancer unit at St Louis in Paris. I'm going to repeat the 30 km (18.6 miles) walk to the hospital and hope that you will support the charity by donating or sponsoring me. The charity's work is greatly appreciated by all the patients we have helped so far but we need funds.

We are a charity based just outside of Paris, France. 'Les Trefles' means 'Clover' and 'du Coeur' means 'of the heart' both iconic symbols of love and luck. Our overall mission is to provide support and comfort to cancer patients and introduce the 'Bravery Bell' to French hospitals.

The Bravery Bell
Our aim is to place Bravery Bells in all cancer units in France and introduce the tradition of ringing the bell at the end of treatment. This is a custom in USA and helps patients celebrate their achievement of completing treatment whatever the stage of the disease.
Notre objectif est d’introduire la Cloche du courage dans toutes les unités de cancérologie en France ainsi que la tradition de sonner la cloche à la fin du traitement. C'est une coutume aux États-Unis qui permet aux patients de célébrer la fin de leur traitement, quel que soit le stade de la maladie.
Offering Comfort
We provide comfort kits to patients during chemotherapy to help ease this difficult journey.
Nous fournissons des trousses de réconfort aux patients pendant la chimiothérapie pour les accompagner dans ce voyage difficile.
The charity presented the very first Bravery Bell in France to the Centre des Maladies des Seins, at the St Louis Hospital in Paris where Katy was treated. She was honoured to be the first patient to symbolically ring the bell during the inauguration ceremony in April 2017 in the presence of the medical and management staff.
Word began to spread and 2 other bells were acquired and offered to other units within the hospital, another was presented to the unit where Katy received her radiotherapy treatment at L'Institut de Cancérologie de Seine et Marne, Hôpital de Jossigny.
Since then the sound of these bells continues to resonate throughout the corridors as patients celebrate their achievements and feedback from staff and patients has been overwhelmingly positive.
L'organisme de bienfaisance a présenté la toute première Cloche du courage en France au Centre des Maladies des Seins, à l'hôpital St Louis de Paris, où Katy a été traitée. Elle a été honorée en tant que premier patient à symboliquement sonner la cloche lors de la cérémonie d'inauguration en avril 2017 en présence du personnel médical et de directeur.
Le bouche à oreille a commencé à fonctionner et deux autres cloches ont été offertes à d’autres unités dans l’hôpital et une autre a été inaugurée dans l'unité où Katy a reçu son traitement de radiothérapie de L'Institut de Cancérologie de Seine et Marne, Hôpital de Jossigny.
Depuis, les tintements de ces cloches continue de résonner dans les couloirs signalant qu’un patient célèbre une énorme réussite de courage et les témoignages du personnel et des patients sont extrêmement positifs.
In addition to the bells, Les Trefles du Coeur has been supporting the chemo unit for breast cancer in St Louis Hospital by providing items and activities to help ease the treatment phase for patients. These include donating stylish and comfortable headcovers for distribution to women experiencing hair loss, providing board games and activities to help pass the time during treatment, tea to alleiviate nausea, offering protective nail varnish for patients at risk of severe nail damage due to the chemicals and providing a basic care kit for all patients facing chemotherapy.

En plus des cloches, Les Trèfles du Cœur soutient l'unité de chimiothérapie pour le cancer du sein de l'hôpital St Louis en fournissant des articles et des activités afin de faciliter cette phase du traitement pour les patients. The Story:
I wanted to give back not only to the amazing people who had helped me through but I wanted to ease the journey for patients going through treatment. At the end of my treatment I was surprised to learn that there was no bell to ring, nothing to acknowledge the achievement and give closure to each chapter of this difficult journey. As a native of the UK I was very aware of the tradition of ringing the bell to mark these important milestones. I did some research, spoke to doctors and psychologists and realized that this was completely unknown in France.
This widespread tradition in USA and UK was introduced in 1996 at MD Anderson, Houston, Texas, by U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Irve Le Moyne who donated the first bell. The bell is rung three times symbolizing the restoration of balance, harmony and life energy and the patients read a symbolic poem to celebrate this milestone.
So, with my new lease of life I gave myself a mission - to buy a Bravery Bell for my chemo unit at St Louis hospital in Paris. I live 30km from the hospital so I thought it would be symbolic to walk that same distance and ask friends and family to sponsor me and raise money for the bell.

I was able to commission a bell and presentation plaque, translate the traditional poem into French and start an incredible relationship with the management of the Breast Cancer Centre, Sénopôle Territoire Cancer Nord de l'Hôpital Saint-Louis, Paris, France.
Following the huge response of support, I received I couldn't stop at just one bell so I founded the charity 'Les Trefles du Coeur'.
The name 'Les Trefles du Coeur' is symbolic to my journey.
'Les Trefles' (Clover): I was offered a clover charm bracelet after surgery, the presence of the symbol multiplied over the months.
'du Coeur': a tribute to the care and love that I received from my medical and support teams who always gave from their hearts.

After 6 months of existing we have donated:
4 Bravery Bells, 500 Chemo Kits, 100 Headcovers, 50 Nail Kits, 10 Activity Boxes.
All the money we receive goes towards purchasing the Bravery Bells and items that offer comfort to patients. We have negotiated great deals with providers of head covers, nail care kits and Chemo kits. The charity has no overheads so every penny you donate goes to help make cancer a little bit bearable for many patients. Over 600 patients have so far benefitted from our donations and many patients have rung bells in French hospitals. Help us reach our goal of making that many more.
Je voulsai faire quelque chose et donner aux personnes incroyables qui m'ont aidée, mais je voulais rendre ce voyage plus facile aux patients qui suivent un traitement. À la fin de mon traitement, j'ai été surprise d'apprendre qu'il n'y avait pas de cloche, rien pour célébrer la réussite de ce difficile voyage, rien pour tourner la page de ce chapitre. Native de Grande-Bretagne, je connaissais la coutume de sonner la cloche pour célébrer d’importantes réalisations. J’ai fait des recherches, j’ai parlé à des médecins et de psychologues et j’ai constaté que cette tradition était tout à fait inconnue en France.

Donc, à l’aube de ma nouvelle vie, je me suis donnée une mission - acheter une Cloche du courage pour mon unité de chimio à l'hôpital St Louis à Paris. Je vis à 30 km de l'hôpital, donc je pensais qu'il serait symbolique de parcourir à pied cette distance et de demander à mes amis et ma famille de me sponsoriser et recueillir ainsi des fonds acheter la cloche.
En novembre 2016, cinq mois seulement après avoir terminé mon traitement, j'ai parcouru à pied la distance de 30 km avec deux amis étonnants, nous avons été accueillis chaleureusement à l'hôpital et nous avons recueilli beaucoup d'argent, au-delà de tout ce que je pouvais espérer.
J'ai pu commander une cloche et une plaque de présentation, traduire le poème traditionnel en français et entamer une relation incroyable avec la direction du Centre du cancer du sein, Sénopôle, Territoire Cancer Nord de l'Hôpital Saint-Louis.
Suite à l'énorme soutien que j’ai obtenu en réponse, je ne pouvais pas m’arrêter à une seule cloche et j’ai donc fondé l'œuvre de charité Les Trèfles du Cœur.
Le nom ' Les Trèfles du Cœur’ est le symbole de mon voyage.
'Les Trèfles': j’ai reçu un bracelet porte-bonheur avec un trèfle à ma sortie de chirurgie, la présence de ce symbole s’est accumulée au cours des mois.
'du Cœur': un hommage aux soins et à l'amour que j'ai reçus de mes équipes médicales et mes équipes de soutien qui ont toujours donné du fond de leur cœur.

L'organisme de bienfaisance n'a pas de frais généraux de sorte que chaque centime que vous donnez permet de rendre le cancer un peu supportable pour de nombreux patients.
