Many people in Texas know me from my first campaign, www.GoFundMe.Com/KatiesBikeVsCar although the healing process from the accident has been hard, the financial implications have been even harder. I’ve now been forced into bankruptcy because of it. Because of this, I must now turn to you all again. It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that I  must start completely over. My leg has healed, but it healed incorrectly.

My ankle has healed at an angle approximately 10° off what would leave my leg fully functional.   Because of this the bone did not heal straight, and because my leg is offset approximately 10° I am unable to put normal weight on the leg. Now, at only 25 years old, forced to use a cane for mobility because intense pain prevents normal movement.  Each time I put weight in the bone that is offset by 10° the pain is so intense that only by placing most of that weight on the cane can offer even the slightest relief, by placing the majority of the weight of normal walking on the cane rather than my leg.

As shown above, you can see the bone in the calf of my leg, has healed on an angle. For the full recovery process, from beginning to end you can visit my original page (pictures included), please be warned, some images can be graphic.

I can not stand for long periods of time, forcing me to forfeit the profession that I went to college for and have degrees and awards in as a Chef. I can not do the daily activities that most people my age can. I often have to get help getting up or getting around due to the pain. Having this has made me switch careers completely, I now work at Capital One so I can sit at a desk. I thought this would help alleviate the severe pain, however, it’s not been as beneficial as I had hoped. Because I don’t actively walk or move as much as I used to while working in the high stress, high energy environment if a kitchen, my leg has become stiff, and the muscle has atrophied, stalling the and lengthening the healing process. As my leg now must be re-broken, this may have been a blessing in disguise, but something I hope to avoid for my next round of healing.

So far two surgeons have recommended removing all bolts, screws, and the metal rod in my leg, RE breaking the bone to have it set right. I will be consulting a third surgeon, however, I am not hopeful for a different answer. This means that after a year of fighting, therapy, and help getting on my feet, I'll be starting at square one all over again, in a wheelchair. As you might imagine, this setback is emotionally overwhelming and financially disastrous.
