Wanderlust! A Dream Come True

Hi! My name is Katherine and I'm a 13-year-old, soon-to-be high school student. As you might have guessed from my video, I like to sing and write songs. But, above all, I LOVE to travel! My song, "Wanderlust" is about my lifelong dream to travel the world.

When I was accepted as a Student Ambassador with the People to People program, my dream seemed like it might actually become a reality. The People to People Student Ambassador program is a service-learning program that was begun by President Eisenhower in 1956. Its mission is to unite the world through face-to-face meetings of students from different cultures. The trip I will be taking in the summer of 2013 will allow me to venture through 7 European countries in 20 days alongside other students my age. This trip will help me and my fellow delegates to promote world peace and understanding between cultures by gaining insight and perspective on people from another part of the world. On this trip we will focus on architecture, art, history, conservation, language learning, and political science. This trip will also enable us to:
· Soar on a zip line over the Swiss Alps
· Walk in the same footsteps as brave WWII soldiers on the beaches of Normandy, France
· Become friends with and experience the culture of a German family during a homestay
· Meet a member of the British Parliament
· Visit European cathedrals and castles
· Participate in a conservation service project in the Black Forest in Germany; and
· Develop confidence and life-long leadership skills that will give me the potential to become a peacemaker of the future.
