On December 30th at 3:08pm my sister-in-law Erin and her husband Nick were blessed with their first child together - Kasen Andrew Meighen. All of us were more than ready to meet the newest addition to the family! He is beyond anything we could have ever hoped for in a nephew. With a head full of hair and the biggest pouty lip ever, I've instantly fallen in love with that handsome little man!
Unfortunately, later in the night we received a call that Kasen was being rushed to Cook Children's Medical Center with suspected heart issues. Doctors discovered he was having issues with blood flowing from his heart to his lungs and diagnosed him with Pulmonary Valve Stenosis. They took him to surgery the next morning and doctors were able to insert a balloon to open up the pulmonary valve. By the grace of God his procedure was completed successfully in a couple of hours and he is now in recovery.
Kasen will now be required to spend the next few weeks in the hospital to be monitored by the staff and make sure everything continues to function properly. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances all of this will exponentially increase the amount of medical expenses Erin and Nick will incur in addition to the regular expenses of having a newborn. I've decided to create this fund to help offset some of the bills that Erin and Nick will receive during this tough time. Any donation, big or small, would be much appreciated and help tremendously as they start their lives together with a beautiful newborn to call their own.
