Karryngtons Kicking Cancer

Karryngton Jamal Sims, Jr., is a two-year-old boy fighting for his life against an extremely rare form of childhood leukemia. Karryngton's process of diagnosis was sometimes riddled with confusion, beginning with multiple hospital visits centered around broken and fractured bones that could not be explained. Karryngton went through a series of x-rays, uncovering the fact that he had 3 fractures in his left arm. Hospital representatives spoke to his parents regarding the possibility of any domestic violence that could have lead to his injuries. Once it was uncovered that there were no issues present in that regard, doctors decided to proceed with a full battery of testing on Karryngton, Jr. After testing was completed, KJ was officially diagnosed with B-ALL type Leukemia, a rare type of cancer that had consumed 60% of his white blood cell count and made his bones extremely brittle. The family and doctors began to pursue immediate and aggressive treatment for Karryngton. In the beginning, he spent quite a bit of time in the hospital, receiving multiple surgeries to prepare him for the long haul of 3 years of medical care. Karryngton's ongoing surgeries include spinal taps designed to keep the disease from spreading to his spine and brain, as well as a chest port that has been placed directly on top of his heart, designed to create a direct injection point for chemotherapy treatment. Currently, Karryngton visits the hospital once weekly for cell count measurement, and chemotherapy treatment as necessary. He takes eight different daily medications designed to keep him well and to minimize the negative effects of his chemotherapy treatments. Over time, his family has watched him grow into a fighter, maintaining his winning smile through months of poking, prodding and aggressive treatment processes that would exhaust many adults. Karryngton has lost and regrown his hair twice already as a part of his treatment, and still suffers from many of the negative effects of fighting the disease, including petit mal seizures. Karryngton is in the fight of his life! What makes him so very special is his admirable strength and winning spirit despite being given only a 40% chance of survival.
