Hello,
My name is Karen and I am a young, female Engineer from Peru. I work at a Mine Construction site located in a very remote part of the Andes (the closest city is 6 hours away). Throughout the years, I have witnessed extreme poverty, child abuse, discrimination and racial stratification. After being exposed to these confronting scenarios, I believe it is time to stop and begin to change. I believe my generation has the potential to make a real impact on the communities we live in and to create sustainable development for future generations.
That is the reason why I am here, seeking your help for sponsorship today.
I have been chosen to act as Delegate representing Peru at the 2014 One Young World Summit in Dublin, Ireland in October this year. One Young World is a Non-profit Organization that gathers together the brightest young people from around the world, empowering them to make life lasting connections to create positive change in their companies, communities and countries.
During the 2014 Summit, more than 1200 young leaders from more than 190 countries will meet, where we will be able to be heard, express our opinions, concerns and propose solutions to fit the global issues of this 21st century.
Young Peruvians have participated in previous OYW summits. This year, my friend and a Peruvian OYW ambassador will be discussing her project, a socially orientated crowdfunding platform. This is a very promising idea that will support several people make their social and sustainable projects become a reality.
Millions of people have been positively impacted so far with projects developed and implemented by OYW members, such as the FEED Project (which has funded over 56 million children meals), Mobile Medic (improving health equity in under-served communities), among others.
I see this as an incredible opportunity to develop my leadership skills and as a source of inspiration, to help me identify new ideas that could be applicable and create a positive change and impact in my country. My goal is to implement these new ideas and present their outcomes at the 2015 Summit. Before my departure, I plan to meet with multiple Peruvian economy and social leaders, in order to understand better our current affairs and bring suitable solutions back to my country.
In order to be able to attend Summit, I must collect enough funds to cover up for OYW fees, travel, accommodation, food and transport. This is where I'm asking for your help. I need to raise a total of USD 7,500 by July 15th.
