Karen's Memorial and Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hey friends, family , and loved ones.

On November 14th, 2017, my mom, Karen Peck, passed away.

Just 9 days prior she had caught what we thought to be a head cold. Over the span of 3 days that cold developed into a severe case on pneumonia. She was having problems breathing and was very weak, so my dad, Ken Peck, admitted her to the hospital. She was immediately moved to the Intensive Care Unit.

We were told the pneumonia developed into severe sepsis (or infection in her blood) and was immediately put on antibiotics. This rapid decline also was a shock to an already weak liver and, ultimately, she could not overcome the compouding factors.  This all happened in only 6 days; 9 days from the time she started feeling sick. Amazingly, Karen's sister, Paula, arrived in Olympia for a "sister's weekend " the day she was admitted to the hospital, and my dad, Paula, and I have been working through this together.

Needless to say, we're still in shock. The full weight of the situation has been hard to grasp and we're trying to make sense of everything. And what to do next.

We're trying to raise funds to specifically help with memorial, medical, and after-death expenses. We hope to hold memorials in San Diego and Cincinnati with a small gathering in Olympia as well, but we're going to need some financial help (I'm a non-profit worker and my dad is SUPPOSED to be retired).

We've been getting questions of "how can we help?" This is one of those ways, but your positive energy, thoughts, and prayers are very welcome, too. Thanks for all of those who have been there for us through this process.

My mom taught me true compassion, love, patience, and understanding. She was the most empathic and caring individual I've ever known, and I'm proud to be her son. She was the best mom a kid could ask for, and I wouldn't be half the person I am today without her. She will always be in my heart, and yours as well. Her smile will forever live in my mind, and her soul will always carry on with those who loved her.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
