Hurricane Harvey, Relief for Kamrun

As we all know, Hurricane Harvey caused unprecedented damage across the Houston area affecting many of our own family and friends.   To fall victim to this storm is devastating, emotionally draining, and a financial burden many are not prepared for and shouldn’t have to face.

This past year and a half has been especially difficult for Kamrun.  Going through a divorce, selling a brand new house she, her son & ex-husband lived in for less than a year, moving into an apartment, and adapting to life as a single mother.  She’s faced so many challenges it was becoming hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  In December of 2016 she was able to move forward with building a new home for her and her son Ayaan in the Riverstone community of Sugar Land, TX.  They eagerly waited for construction to finish and closed the first week of July 2017.  There was still a lot of unfinished work the builder had to complete on her home even after they moved in, but the light at the end of the tunnel was finally getting brighter.

When Hurricane Harvey struck, no one in her community was prepared for what was about to come.  Their homes were not in a flood zone and they were far enough away from the rising waters of the Brazos their homes should not have been threatened.  A combination of torrential downpours and a failed drainage pump allowed water to back up into her community flooding most of the homes.

Kamrun’s house was flooded with a foot of water for several days damaging floors, walls, cabinets, furniture, unpacked boxes, photos, etc.  On top of that she does not carry flood insurance because she is well out of the flood zone and her builder advised it wasn't necessary.

Thankfully, she and her son were able to escape the rising waters and stay with her parents nearby.  She’s such an amazing, caring person who is full of life and always does her best to be there for everyone else.  Now let’s be there for her and Ayaan!  It’s our turn to come together and show our support for Kamrun and Ayaan.  Any donations you can afford to make will mean the world to them.  All donations will go directly to Kamrun to be used towards home repairs and replacing items such as furniture that were lost in the flood.

The repairs to her home are expected to cost anywhere between $30k-$40k, and that does not include replacing furniture and other items lost.  We are hoping to raise at least $10k to help ease the financial burden for her and her son.  Please share this with anyone and everyone you know who is willing to help a family in need.

Together we can help bring back the light at the end of the tunnel for someone who deserves all of the gifts life has to offer
