Youth Against Violence & Mentoring

Last year we held a very successful Youth Against Gun Violence Conference where older community leaders spoke to young men in our comminity on such critical topics as Conflict Resolution, Gangs, Misogyny, Anger Management, Bullying, How to Behave if Stopped by Police, etc. 

We are asking for your support again. We found many of the youth who were in need of guidance to be hungry for the lack of caring, supportive adults in their lives. Particularly male figures. Many times there was only one parent and no "village". Mentoring is powerful and known to be capable of changing the trajectory of a young life and mentoring is what we offer.

After planting the seeds of anti gun violence at the conference we offer mentoring.  To date we have conducted an eight hour evidenced based mentor training program and trained ten mentors on the art and most effective methods of mentoring. Currently we have three boys assigned to mentors and another two who are simultaneously enrolled in our program and the President's My Brothers Keeper program.  Also we now collaborate with an organization that provides health and wellness counseling and are working on a collaboration to offer S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering & math and recently the "A"for Arts has been added).

This year our goal is to obtain funding. Your contribution will help secure a professional grant writer. It is very likely that with a grant writer we won't need to ask for your support again next year and we will only be in contact to keep you abreast of the good work your generous support has allowed us to continue.
