PINCH ME BECAUSE I MUST BE DREAMING:
I am so unbelievably, overwhelmingly, incredibly excited to announce that I have been accepted into the 2018 Creative Minds in Cannes Internship Program!
This amazing news means that I will be traveling to Cannes, France for a once in a lifetime internship opportunity, in which I will be working for a studio or production company (yet to be determined!). The internship lasts for the entire duration of the festival, so I will be there for two weeks, from May 6 through May 20.
I cannot express in words how much this opportunity means to me! As an aspiring filmmaker and future member of the industry, this experience will be beneficial in so many ways. I will learn a great deal about the acquisition and distribution of films, along with the behind-the-scenes happenings of film festivals. This is a truly amazing networking opportunity, and the amount of industry professionals I will be exposed to is endless. I will be graduating from film school in August, and this experience could potentially be a wonderful next step in my career journey. On top of the incredible work experience I will be getting, I will also have the opportunity to attend some film premieres and even walk on the red carpet!
*heavy breathing*
For those of you who know me personally, I am sure you can imagine how much of a DREAM COME TRUE this is for me. I still cannot believe it is real!
Some of you may not know what the Festival de Cannes, or Cannes Film Festival, is all about. In short, the Festival de Cannes is widely regarded as one of the best film festivals in the entire world. It was founded in 1946, and has been the hub of international cinema for many years. Cannes is where many of the top films get their start each year, and hundreds of the biggest names in the industry come to Cannes for the prestigious festival. Not only is it a festival, but it is a marketplace where films are purchased from all over the globe. AND I WILL BE THERE!
So how can you help? The program cost is not cheap, especially for someone who is in their second year of graduate school. Due to the fact that this opportunity takes place in France, there are some extra costs to consider. The campaign goal that I have set takes my entire program fee into consideration, along with some other costs that I will encounter.
Here's a breakdown of what the program fees include, and what you would be contributing to if you donated:
-OFFICIAL FESTIVAL DE CANNES CREDENTIAL!
-Housing
-Orientation
-2 hour walking tour of Cannes
-Breakfast (and some lunches)
-International cell phone
-Shuttle transportation
-Program t-shirt (who doesn't love a t-shirt)
-Administrative costs
On top of that, I will also need to pay for dinner (for two weeks), day-to-day transportation outside of the shuttle, unexpected expenses for acclimating to a new environment, walking around money, and other networking costs.
As a second year Master's student at the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts, I will be graduating in August of this year with my MFA in Film Production. The first batch of great news when it comes to the financial side is that the FSU CMPA has been extremely supportive of this opportunity and has graciously offered to pay for my flight expenses!!! I am so honored and truly grateful for all that the film school has done to help make this a possibility, and for allowing me to be a part of this internship. I am truly blessed!
But you can still help! And as a very small way to say thank you, I promise to document and share as much of my experience as possible! For example, I have yet to find out what my internship will entail, including what company I will be assigned to. And of course once I get there, the new and exiciting things to share will be endless.
