My name is Vasili Platunov, owner of Est-Alfa K-9 Security, LLC., and I am asking for your help in securing our nation’s borders while simultaneously saving the lives of countless dogs, which are currently perishing within our animal shelter system. With your help, we can make a real, and powerful impact in solving these two significant crises!
Our project, “K-9 Border Wall”, is a novel proposal, the goal of which is to provide our nation with a proven capability to fill border-security gaps, where illegal entry continues, despite the enormous effort and costs that our government has invested.
A vast assortment of strategies is currently in use towards this end, all with varying degrees of efficiency. From barriers and structures (walls and fences), to electronic sensors and drones, human and K-9 patrols, our Nation’s border is secured by a spectrum of means. Unfortunately, these efforts sometimes fall far short of their goals, and/or incur astronomical operating costs.
At the same time, over 4 million dogs pass through the shelter and rescue systems in the US, every year. Many of these dogs, which have very strong working abilities, are unfortunately euthanized, specifically because of what many potential owner’s see as “unwanted” or difficult traits (such as size, strength, potential aggression, difficult handling requirements, etc.). Those kept in no-kill shelters do not fare much better, as they are confined to small pens and live out the rest of their days as prisoners, with little chance of release.
Together, we can help these wonderful animals become “soldiers” and guardians, rather than condemned prisoners, and bolster our nation’s borders to previously unattainable levels!
Our goal is not to replace our nations current border patrol efforts, but rather to strengthen them with a completely new and cost-effective approach: to create a “K9 Border Wall” using dogs currently awaiting almost certain death or an unhappy life within rescue shelters across the nation, and our own stock of Caucasian Shepherd Dogs, from our kennel in Nevada. Naturally, this mission is not for any dog. All dogs adopted for the K9 Border Wall will be carefully selected based on temperament, ability and the physical characteristics needed to handle the challenges of our southern border.
In a historical context, K-9 border walls have successfully been used by many governments. For example, K-9 Security was a primary tool in border control at the Berlin Wall, proving exceedingly useful in preventing border crossings, without a single person being hurt by dogs. Guardian dogs were also very efficient in protecting the borders of the Eastern European countries and the former Soviet Union. As a veteran, with over 40 years of experience in K-9 handling and operations, both within the military and private sectors, I would like to adapt these experiences to the current needs of our country.
I appeal to all of you, who care about the fate of these unfortunate yet lovely animals, and to those who would like to see stronger and more effective border security.
