Seizure Service Dog for Justin

Every parent wishes for their children to be healthy. As our son Justin was getting older and not reaching his developmental milestones it began to concern us. After several doctor, specialist, and therapy appointments we found out that Justin is autistic, has a chromosome deficiency. So he has characteristics of angleman, and aspergers syndrome and has seizures. Justin is now 8yrs old and still very delayed in a lot of areas. We hope that one dayJustin will be able to live an independent life but the reality of the situation is that he will have to have daily care provided by someone.
Having a special needs child is an emotional rollercoaster. Our family has learned to deal with Justin's issues and try to provide him with anything and everything to help him with daily life to succeed. No matter how big or small the progress is.
In the past year Justin's seizures have been getting worse. He has a vegial nerve stimulator, and with several diffent medications they are still not under control. Justin has 3-4 a day if not more. It really depends on the day he is having. ( Justin is completely nonverbal. So he can't tell us how he feels.) There has been several times that he has stopped breathing because of his seizures. It does not happen every time he has a seizure but once was enough for me. More recently it has happened in the middle of the night. So someone always sleeps in bed with him. I have asked the neurologist about getting something so we know it is happening. The best suggestion they have is always be next to him. There is no home medical device to detect seizures that we can get.
Looking into this I have found seizure service dogs. Not all dogs can be trained for this. Those that can. They can sense a chemical change in your bodies chemistry. They can warn you before a seizure happens, signal for help when you have a seizure, and help protect you during that time to keep you from hurting yourself. They are amazing animals.
Upon researching I have found that they are very expensive. This is why I am asking for help to fund Justin a service dog. If we had the means to do this in a timely manner I would not ask for help. To get a service dog at a discounted price you are put on a waiting list. Which is about 5yrs. They range anywhere from 10 to 40 thousand dollars. Price really depends on cost of the dog, vet care, food during the training process and the type of training that they need. Training is based on the needs of the person receiving the dog. This is why I am not asking for a specific amount. Any money that I put into a service dog moves Justin up on the list. Thank you for reading about our situation.
