Zambia Orphanage - Volunteer Trip

After feeling the reward inside of doing some local volunteer work with underprivileged kids through my 4-H club in 2013, I was moved to do something more and hopefully make even a bigger difference for people not as fortunate as you or I.
In July 2014 I will be embarking on a trip to Kenya to undertake a 3 weeks volunteering program through International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ).
I will be volunteering at an orphanage with young orphaned and abandoned children. Due to the high incidence of poverty and illness, orphanages in Kenya can host 50-300 children at any one time and there is always a high demand for volunteers. Volunteers assist not only with daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, homework, but as well as the much needed affection and emotional support they need. I will be staying with a host family so that we can immerse ourselves in the local culture and learn more about Kenya and it's people.
Noting my age of 15 and in support of this volunteering effort my mom will be accompanying me on this life-changing journey. My family will cover her costs, but I am trying to raise the money needed to cover my portion. My goal of $3,700 will cover my expenses of airfare, registration and program fees of IVHQ, travel insurance, passports, and vaccines. Since making this decision, I will also be putting all my money made working over the past year towards this effort as well. My family has begun an "Africa "˜14" jar but I still would appreciate any and all help. Any money exceeding my goal will all go to providing educational supplies, toys and other necessities (first aid materials, vitamins, tissues, children's clothing) to those local efforts in Kenya. It is recommended that we purchase these items in Kenya to help stimulate the local economy.
I do appreciate you considering or helping with sponsoring my efforts to what will be a positive life- changing experience for me and the people I will meet in July of 2014.
