My nephew, Judson Ernst (20 months),  was in an tragic accident on Friday, September 25th while playing in his yard.  He was severely burned and needs our love and support!

Kari and the kids were enjoying a fire at their firepit like they often do in the evenings.  The kids were playing and she had just brought them all in the house for a snack.  Prior to going in the house, Judson had been playing a silly game with a bucket on his head- like fun-loving playful kids do!  Kari returned to fire with the kids after their snack when tragedy struck - Judson again put the bucket on his head and fell into the firepit.

Kari called 9-1-1 and Judson was flown via Life Flight to St. Paul, Minnesota to the Regions Hospital Burn Unit.  Kari and Jake drove the long drive to St. Paul not knowing the extent of Judson's injuries.

While the plastic play bucket protected much of Judson's face, the extent of the injuries on his hands and fingers still remain unknown today - three days post accident.

The swelling from the burns was cutting off blood circulation to his upper extremities.  To relieve the pressure and allow blood flow again,  the team at the burn center needed to cut the skin on Judson's arms, hands and fingers .    He has been heavily medicated and sedated during his daily dressing changes. Today he was placed on a feeding tube to help ensure he gets the nutrition his body needs to heal.

Kari posted this after the accident on facebook:

"The silly games babies play.. started out so innocent and fun. Ended with a tragic fall into out firepit.. Judson fell into our firepit Friday night. God always has a plan and a purpose..He sees Judson's life from beginning to end..I am yet to understand His plan for this..but trying to remember we serve a glorious merciful Father! All prayers appreciated!! We will not have an update on how severe his injuries are until his surgery Tuesday. Psalms 57:1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by."

On Tuesday, September 29th at 7:30am Judson will undergo surgery to understand the extent of his injuries to his arm his hands.

Judson and his family will likely face a long road to recovery.

Please donate anything you can to help!  Small or large, or even just a supportive message during this challenging time.   Your kindness will help with insurance copays, deductibles, pharmacy bills, hospital meals, gas, care for the kiddos at home, lodging, loss of work and other expenses along his long road to recovery.

Kari and Jake have been at the hospital by Judson's side the entire time.  They are forever grateful for the support from friends and family for the care of their five children at home.

Our family would also like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Colfax and Menomonie 911 Responders, the Life Flight crew and the nationally-recognized Burn Unit Team at Regions Hospital in St.Paul, MN for their courageous and professional treatment and care.

September 29th Post Surgery Update from Jake:

"Praising God for getting Judson through this surgery this morning.  It was about 4 hours in surgery this morning.   They operated on both arms and the right hand.  They did not do any skin grafts yet because his body is not ready for it. They put a synthetic skin over the wounds today and will go back in for surgery again in roughly 10 days. Skin grafts will take place on that next surgery by using skin from his lower back and thigh.  They did not do any amputations today but there is still concern about a couple of finger tips, that will also be determined during the next surgery. There will be some recovery time here in the hospital after the next surgery as well.  We expect that we'll be here for roughly 3 more weeks before Judson is able to go home".

Wow, over half-way to our goal in less than twelve hours....I am so so thankful for all your support!

Jake also shared he can feel all this love surrounding them during this hard time.

Thank you and check back for more updates soon...
