Help kidnap victim rebuild her life

Donation protected
Judith Layton (Claassen) was getting ready for bed on the evening of Monday 2nd April 2018 at her home in the Cayo District, Belize. Two intruders burst through her bedroom window and proceeded to rob Judi of her personal jewelry, cash, and electrical items. They then put her into her own car, drove her to a remote spot several miles away and left her there, tied to a tree. She was found the next day by passers-by but none of her belongings have been found. Judi is 72 years old and understandably cannot return to live in the home she owns and shared with her late husband who sadly passed away last year.

Judi has lived a very quiet life in Belize, spending time with friends and tending to her house and garden. She has taught people in her village how to play the piano and is a wonderfully fun-spirited woman, always ready for an adventure and a laugh.

Judi’s many friends are absolutely desperate to get her back on her feet. Right now Judi is staying in very temporary accommodation, without her pets. The most essential things that Judi needs are a secondhand car, and some cash to set her up in a rented house somewhere safe.

It is possible to buy cars for next to nothing but there is no point in burdening Judi with another vehicle which will just need to be fixed all the time. We are hoping to be able to spend about Bz$15,000 (Us$7,500) on a vehicle which Judi can depend on while she goes through the massive challenge of rebuilding her life.

Judi needs to move into a rented house. We are hoping to be able to cover her deposit and first few months of rent: Bz$5,000 (Us$2,500) would be the minimum to safely achieve that. Judi will be able to cover her rent longer term but needs time to repair, improve, and rent out her own home to make that possible.

Any surplus of cash would be used to work on her own home to get it cleaned and repaired from the robbery and in a condition to rent out. She also needs to replace her laptop or computer, phone, electrical equipment, etc.

The other most urgent need is for Judi to find a temporary home for her two dogs, until she moves into a rented house. If anybody has space for two beautiful female dogs in their home for just a short while, that would be a huge weight off Judi’s mind.

Please, please help us to help get Judi back on her feet and show her how many people care about her.

Thank you for your time.
