Funeral Expenses: Luis Arroyo's mom

I truly believe that parents are the first to invest in a child's education in hopes of making a world a better place.

Juana Maria Rodriguez Mejia migrated to this country full of life, hopes, and dreams in 1998-- amongst those dreams was the dream to give her two sons an education and a better life in the United States.

In 2006 she was diagnosed with cancer, and two days ago she left this world-- she passed away but left us, and this country, with two young men who will continue and honor her legacy towards making this world a better place.

Luis Arroyo--a UC Sant Cruz Alumn, College Track Alumn, Dream Summer Fellow, and E4FC Fellows-- is a reflection of her strength, her resilience, her dreams, her love, and her commitment to the education of immigrant youth.

She will be remembered for helping Luis Arroyo, graduate from UC Santa Cruz and for gifting us with a young man committed to fighting for social change.
