The NOLS program is just the opportunity that I need. After high school, I enrolled at Palm Beach Atlantic University. While I enjoyed my freshman year, I did not find that it was the right fit for me. When I returned to PBA my sophomore year, I struggled to adjust. I was unsure about my career path, so my courses did not seem relevant. Since I am responsible for 100% of paying my college education, I decided to take time off to find my passion. I am highly motivated and I am at a place in life I need to challenge myself. I am soul searching and need to be in a place that is about teamwork, perseverance, persistence and accountability. I recently heard of NOLS and knew this was an ideal opportunity for me. I would contribute 100% of my energy and passion to the program. It is a chance to learn about myself and give back to others and the community. I recognize I need financial support to make this a reality. I am fully committed to being an exceptional participant and will take back the experiences to be an ambassador for NOLS.
My parents do not have the means to fund this opportunity. My father runs a non-profit organization that serves the United Nations diplomatic community. I am also one of seven siblings. Due to this, I am responsible for funding not only my college education but also any additional programs, such as NOLS. I am working and attempting to save as much money as I can. However, I currently have student loans of $13,500 for my time at Palm Beach Atlantic University. In the Spring of 2018, I plan to attend college and I am in the process of looking at universities I can transfer to, which will cause me to increase my student debt. NOLS is an opportunity for me to get my life back on track, to find my passion and then to pursue my college education with zest and focus. So, I recognize that I should continue to work, but NOLS is something that would help transition me back to college.
