Friends and Family of Jean Scott

In September 2017, my mother Jean Scott was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL), an aggressive, rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).

 - Please refer to the following link for further details of MCL: https://www.nhlcyberfamily.org/types/mantlecell.htm.

As one can imagine, or unfortunately as too many people can relate to, words cannot describe the shock my family felt upon hearing the news. My mother was young and healthy, how can this be happening? All I kept thinking was she is the kindest, sweetest person you can meet. She does not deserve this! She’s my mother, my best friend, someone I love with all my heart. This was devastating.

Doctors told her this form of NHL required an aggressive form of treatment to include chemotherapy and then autologous stem cell transplantation. Since starting her rigorous treatments, there have been no easy days. Earlier this year, she retired from her job with the New York State Courts in the Bronx, a job that she loved, a job in which she admirably/honorably served The Bronx, the borough in which she was born and raised, for 35 years. She is without a doubt A True Bronx Warrior.

In the only way a Bronx-Irish woman knows how to, she has confronted this cancer and has since been fighting it like hell. Her grit, toughness, and determination have been a tremendous source of inspiration to my family. To honor her ongoing heroic fight and her bravery, I decided to run the Boston Marathon on April 16 to raise awareness of MCL. Many people have never heard of this form of NHL, and admittedly I was one of them until that horrible September day.

I hate this disgusting cancer and I’m asking for your help in fighting it. By running Boston, my goal is to help raise a total of $6,000 to donate to the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF). Specifically, I’m hoping to reach 300 people who will donate $20. I believe it’s a very realistic goal.

$20 - that’s all I’m asking. I promise you each dollar you contribute will be donated to the LRF to further its research in the fight against MCL. None of it will go towards costs, fees, or other administrative expenses that can be associated with charitable causes. Nor will any of it go to my family.

Last but not least, I ask all of you to keep my mom, and all others fighting cancer, in your prayers. There is nothing more powerful than prayer and it is truly needed. I want to thank you in advance for your help and donations. It’s been inspiring to me and I look forward to running to honor my mother’s fight. Throughout the marathon, I’ll be running with two mantras in mind: “JEANNIE STRONG” and “CRUSH MCL”. My family has been very appreciative and touched by your support. Thanks again and let’s CRUSH MCL.

Best Wishes and God Bless,
Jonathan
