Join Forces with the Johnsons

On the evening of Tuesday, November 28th, 2017, Sean Johnson was rushed to the University of Maryland Medical Center for emergency, life-saving cardiac surgery. Sean, loving father and husband, had experienced an aortic dissection.

Within 24 hours of surviving the surgery, Sean experienced devastating complications. As of right now, his family has been told that he is paralyzed from the waist down and that he will not walk again.

Sean will require months of therapy. His road to recovery is very long.

Sean’s medical expenses alone will quickly surpass $100,000. Of that cost, Sean and his family can expect to pay at least $15,000 out of pocket. The Johnsons will also need to make their home wheelchair accessible, an estimated cost of over $20,000. In addition to these unexpected expenses, the average cost of living for their family of 5 still needs to be covered. The loss of Sean’s full-time income will have a significant impact. Neither Sean nor Kendra will be able to work during the acute stages of Sean’s recovery. The urgency of need for the funds raised here cannot be expressed enough.

Together, they care for 3 children. Kysean is a freshman in high school at the Baltimore Design School. Keaunna is a seventh grader in Baltimore City Public Schools. Both Kysean and Keaunna are honor roll students. The youngest, Mi’Sean is in elementary school.

Sean has lived independently for the last 47 years. The enormous task of coping with the mental and physical adjustments of becoming a paraplegic is impossible to quantify. Many of us take the simple things in life for granted: playing with our children, driving to the store, getting ourselves a glass of water, meeting our own basic needs. Kendra describes Sean as her rock. They have been together for over 20 years. Life for the Johnson family is forever changed.

100% of the personal gifts donated during this campaign will be directly transferred to Sean and Kendra. While we anticipate that the long-term costs of Sean’s condition will exceed $100,000, our goal of $59,000 is intended to meet the estimated cost of medical bills, initial home renovations, and short-term loss of income while caring for an entire family.

If you are looking for other ways to support the Johnson family, please share this page with friends and family who might also be able to make a contribution. The Johnson family has expressed that they are open to any resource, suggestion, idea, or desire to offer help.

As an extended community, we can come together to support their strong, beautiful family. Please consider making a donation. Any amount makes a difference.

On behalf of the Johnson family, thank you all for your love and support.
