Johnnies Fight for Life

We are starting this gofundme page for a beloved husband,father,grandpa and uncle. Johnnie Spikes believes in God family and helping his neighbors and community. He has dedicated 16 years of his life as a volunteer firefighter for Emory, Texas. Besides the fire department he likes wood working and fishing and most of all spending time with his family and little angels (grand children ) and living life in general.                               However he is currently in the 4th stage of chronic lung disease and only has about 15 percent of his lung capacitiy he is able to use. He now lives with the help of oxygen 24 hours a day and sleeps with a 2nd machine to help remove the carbon dioxide from his lungs so it won't poison his body. At one point he got below 100 lbs. After months of rehab and a dietitians help he started being evaluated for a possible lung transplant. After another month of test after test he has been approved for the transplant at Baylor University's Chronic Lung Disease Center in Dallas,Texas. He is currently waiting to be placed on the transplant list.                                                                                 ....                                                                                                                  Johnnie and Diane his wife of 37 yrs lives on his disability which don't go very far. Medicare only covers a fraction of his medical costs and there personal finances have been used up. There still is surgery, extensive hospital stay and rehabilitation. The cost of the medication he will be required to take after the transplant are tremendous. He will be required to take this medication for the rest of he's life.                                                                     So we are reaching out to family, friends and the community of Rains County and beyond. Please, please help us to raise money for this man who has given so much for so many. God makes special people to fill the roles that are needed as fire fighters.
