The John J. Percin Jr. Scholarship Fund

Donation protected
The John J. Percin, Jr. Memorial Chapter 5 Recovery Scholarship Fund is designed to help individuals seeking recovery from alcoholism and substance abuse.

John J. Percin, Jr., firefighter, lost his life tragically, albeit bravely, defending his beloved community of Prescott, AZ and the American West in the Yarnell Hill Fire on June 30, 2013. He was a member of the Granite Mountain Hot Shot Crew.

The John J. Percin, Jr. Memorial Chapter 5 Scholarship Fund was founded as an effort to memorialize the life and values of this courageous, beautiful young man, and with the commitment of Chapter 5 Recovery Homes, a non-profit 501C-3, help those in need break free from the bondage of addiction, just as it helped John.

John's passion for a new way of life contagiously spread to those around him. Through recovery from alcohol and addiction, John was able to find a new passion in life--helping others. He gave nobly of himself as a Chapter 5 graduate and house manager to assist others live their own dreams and obtain happiness through the gift of recovery and selfless service. Because of his new found path, John was able to pursue his life-long dream of protecting nature and others by fighting wild land fires.

It is through his heroic actions, in life and death, that we remember John--His kindness, his compassion, his dedication, and his perseverance--that we, in concordance with his family, establish the John J. Percin, Jr. Memorial Chapter 5 Recovery Scholarship Fund to help other deserving candidates receive the gift of recovery and a new chance at a life.

His passion and optimistic positivity live on through the program that meant so much to him. May the legacy and spirit of this special young man carry on through the lives of others. He has touched our souls and may you allow him to touch your soul as well!

We love and miss you "Big Country." May your memory endure for times to come!

We can hear his deep, baritone voice still resonating with us today, saying: "Do the right thing."
