John Douglas - Help Save My Farm!

On Oct. 6, 2017, my brother John "Bubba" Douglas fell 3 stories while rapelling at UT Medical Building.  His pelvis was crushed, spine severed at pelvis, right leg broken, and he had internal bleeding.  Thru many, many prayers, and the dedicated Drs. and Nurses at Regional One Medical Trauma Center, not only has he survived the fall and resulting injuries; he is now on his way to a long, painful recovery.  He has triumphed over so many steps in this 5 weeks journey; surviving the intial fall; the 4 surgeries  for internal bleeding (3 surgeries on the first day totaling over 8 hours); the 8 hr surgery for the broken bones;  the numerous blood clots - the 1st he threw after the surgeries for internal bleeding and caused his blood pressure to bottom out - we almost lost him that day;  the 2 bleeds on the brain, which luckily caused no swelling and did not require surgery; the fractured verterbraes - that had swelling, but luckily they did not press on the spinal cord or need surgery and several other minor fractures.  Unexpected complications like heart damage and his blood pressure bottoming out also incurred.  During one of the weekends I stayed, so Mom and Dad could rest,  I watched the 6 Drs and Nurses stop his heart (total of 3 times that day) to reset the rhythm and help the blood flow.  Hour by hour, against even the Drs. and Nurses expectations, he would make it thru the next hour and next hurdle.  He survived ALL of this, he is not paralyzed and has no brain injury.  He DOES however, have to learn to walk again, learn to use his right hand and right side of his body again (that side took the brunt of the fall and had to be rebuilt).  He is self-employed and has no other income. He will never be able to do the job again that he was doing, so his business is done.   He had recently bought his life-long dream farm and ranch, where he can be a "Cowboy" and raise cattle.   His little house is actually a nice storage building that he had built and he was working on the inside of it himself to finish it out.   Right now, the goal is to raise $10,000 to pay off his little house and finish the inside of it.  We could also use material, like insulation to put in the ceiling and plywood or something similar to do the ceiling, paneling to finish out the walls, old barn doors to use as  inside doors, the loft finished - complete with a sliding ladder for when his daughter, Layla, comes to visit.  Obviously, other smaller items such as gable vents, nails, etc... is needed, so if you have left over construction items, we will gladly accept them.  My husband is a retired builder but we could use help if you want to volunteer your skills.  John had completed some of his electrical, but he has more that needs to be done, especially the installation of good lighting throughout.  We will need both lights and electrical labor. My husband and I have a wood heater that we plan to give him, but we will need someone to install and vent it. IF we have any money left, it will be used to make payments on his farm. We are in the process of  setting him up on disability, but don't know exactly when it will start or how much it will pay.  In the meantime, bills need to be paid to keep him above water until it does.  Any help, will be greatly appreciated by him and us!
