So many thanks to all of you who have prayed for, supported, and followed the journey of John Nichols -- the son of our beloved cousins Lee and Melanie Nichols.

John passed away Saturday, Feb. 3. A memorial service is planned for Friday, Feb. 9, 4 PM, at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham. Visitation will be 2-4 PM.

We originally intended for this fund to help Lee and Melanie with expenses associated with John's recovery.

We hope you will now join us in allowing this fund to assist with John's funeral and any other expenses that might enable healing in his family.  Please know that Lee and Melanie will donate to charity any unused funds.

Thank you again for joining us in supporting our cousins, and please continue to pray for the gift of John Nichols and that God comforts the hearts of those he has left behind.

Sincerely,
Mary Anna Malone, Charlotte Rumore, Michael Hemphill, Beth Walker and Becky Walk

From Melanie's Facebook page on Feb. 3 ...

Family and friends, it is with soul-wrenching heartache Melanie and I write this post. Our beloved joy, John, has passed from this world to live with Jesus. He died very peacefully today in his mommy’s arms with me holding his hands. We held him and cried until his heart stopped, and then held him more. We loved on him, and prayed, and sang, and dressed him. I’ll never forget his sweet, cherubic face. I’m personally experiencing an intensity of emotion I didn’t know could exist. So many things in our house were John’s and so many things in life evoke memories of John—I don’t know when I won’t have to remind myself it’s not a dream and John isn’t coming home.

We talked with Rachel tonight because she had asked for John 2-3 times since we’ve been home. We told her John isn’t coming home and that he is now with Jesus in heaven, but we know we’ll be answering the “Where’s John?” question for many years. Please pray for Rachel and us as we start a new chapter in life as a family of three. There’s no doubt where Rachel’s heart is, but pray we show Jesus to Rachel with every word and deed.

Although John is singing off key and running on legs now whole with Jesus, we still desperately need your prayers for strength and comfort in this indescribably difficult time.
