Joseph Nesbit Memorial Fund

Joe and I are trying to raise money to pay for a wheelchair accesible van for him. Joe's Family Care(Insurance) will cover the conversion however we have to come up with a 2008 or newer van with 50,000 or less miles on it. Money raised will be used for a van and any extra will go towards Joe's extensive medical bills.

Joe was born with reduced kidney function. He made it until the age of 26 before going on the transplant list. After three months of waiting the call was recieved on June 5, 2006. We literally dropped everything and drove at least 75mph the whole way to Madison. At 1:30am on June 6, 2006 Joe was taken into surgery and by 3:30am he had a new kidney. He went home after just a week in the hospital. Unfortunaly he did have some small rejections over the next few years and the transplanted kidney completly rejected in November of 2009. Joe was placed on the transplant list again in August of 2009 when he began dialysis. We are were waiting for another call, this time from Froedtert. In January 2013 Joe was taken off the transplant list due to his brain injury. Joe is doing his dialysis at home. This is a very nice way to do dialysis. He treats 6 days a week for about 2 hours. On August 11, 2011 at 4:46am Joe's. Heart stopped. CPR was performed for 10 minutes. Joe was resuscitated. Joe was put on a ventilator and doctors told me(his wife)'they were not optimistic that Joe would make it and that he wouldn't have any brain function. I told doctors they were wrong. Boy were they. Joe was on a ventilator for 2 weeks and making progress everyday of recovering brain function! Joe is getting physically stronger. His brain is healing and he has recovered most of his brain function. He just has problems with his short term memory.  This van will help Joe get around much easier!  Thank you for your support!
