My name is Jocelyn Mosman, and I'm a junior at Mount Holyoke College, double majoring in English and Politics. I recently made the first ever Northampton Poetry Slam Team that will compete at the National Poetry Slam in Oakland, California this August.
I have been dreaming of going to Nationals since I first discovered slam 2 years ago. Now, that dream can become a reality. Over the past two years, I've competed in more than 25 poetry slams, received multiple awards, been published in numerous literary magazines and journals, along with publishing 2 collections of my own poetry. I have performed for Striver's Row, Jesse Parent, Mary Lambert, and more.
My true passion has always been language. From the age of 10, I have been writing non-stop, ultimately influenced by my grandfather, an English teacher, who passed away four years ago. I can only hope he would be proud of the woman I have become.
Unfortunately, as a full time student, it is difficult to manage the balance of attending an elite college, working two jobs to sustain myself at school in the first place AND maintain my passion of poetry and performance. On top of that, since I am studying abroad this upcoming fall, money is tighter than usual and I need your help!
The money from this GoFundMe will go toward the following for competing at the National Poetry Slam: round-trip airfare, ground transportation, hotel costs and meals. I will be in Oakland for a full seven days. Therefore, you may understand how these expenses can add up so quickly.
I am appreciative for whatever you can contribute to my fulfilling my passion. There is no donation too small that I will not humbly and gratefully accept. It is truly the mere thought that counts!
