Joan's Breast Cancer Fund

We are starting this fundraiser for our hero, our Mom (Joan)! She has been the best mom that anyone could ask for.  Our hearts were broken the day we found out she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in July of 2014.  Nobody could understand why. Why her?  There was no answer to that question and we all learned that very quickly.  We all did research and learned more about the situation which helped us understand what was to come next.  After visiting the doctor the first few times, Mom made a decision to have a double mastectomy which was perfomed on August 29th.  We all arrived to the hospital together.  We spent the whole day pacing back and forth checking the boards to see which stage of the surgery she was on.  Finally, after about 8 hours, she was moved to the recovery room and we were told very good news. Everything went well! Doctor said she was one of the easiest patients he's ever had!  When we finally got to see her, We will never forget her saying "is it over already?!" She couldn't believe it.  She thought she remembered just seeing the doctor before surgery. She was so relieved.  She stayed in the hospital for a few days with us all right by her side to keep her company. We are pretty sure we drove the doctors and nurses nuts but we weren't bothering Mom, that's what she wanted!  She was able to return home after a few days and she was in her fighting spirits.  Our dad, Perry, was there to help her get everything in just the right place so she could be as comfortable as possible.  He really stepped up to make sure she was healing as quickly as possible from the surgery.  It took her a few days to get back up on her feet for more than a few minutes at a time but she did it.   She seen the doctors for check ups a few days a week during the recovery.  Everything was looking good and it was time to move onto the next step: Chemotherapy.  She was scared and nervous but she stepped up and said I'll get through this.  She made sure to ask all the questions she had before her first appointment which was October 6th.  Her first appointment went well along with the other 3 she had.  The chemo made her tired, a little quesy at times, and  her hair did fall out but she received a wig and a bunch of nice hats from the cancer center and Michelle!  She looks good in them but is camera shy, we will get a pic up here soon with her in one!! She has now started a 30 day Radiation program.  She goes every Monday thru Friday. She says it goes quick and is painless but she just wants it to be over.  We all try to remind her that it will be over soon and she will be onto the full healing process. And she will have kicked cancers butt!  

With the strength and courage she has we have all been able to come together to make this a journey we will never forget. She is a fighter, she has never given up.

We wanted to put together this fund for her because money is very tight for her since she has not been able to work at all through this.  Going to the doctor on a regular basis is adding up.  She has insurance but not everything has been covered.  We are hoping we can raise enough money to take care of any expenses that she is struggling with and hopeful there is some left over for her to take a couple days to herself once she is done with Radiation and feeling better. She definetly deserves a vacation! She will  appreciate anything (cards, flowers, words of inspiration, prayers  and thoughts, etc) And if you can make a donation towards her fund that is greatly appreciated as well.
