Jimmy Dean needs your help to beat cancer.
Two years ago, Jimmy Dean was a homeless, underweight, two-year old puppy, found wandering the streets of the Bronx, New York. He was taken to a high-kill shelter and placed on death row, before being saved by Foster Dogs NYC and Motley Mutts Pet Rescue. Despite all of his hardships, he possessed a playful personality and a love of people, expressed in his "Jimmy Dean lean".
It was through Motley Mutts and Foster Dogs NYC, that Jimmy Dean came into our lives. Initially, we decided only to foster him, but, after two months of living with the big-headed, love bug, we knew Jimmy Dean was something special, and we had to make him a permanent member of our family.
From being homeless in the Bronx to traveling cross country to California, Jimmy Dean makes new friends wherever he goes.

After overcoming so much in his life, Jimmy Dean now has a new challenge: Cancer.
About a month ago, a cancerous Mast Cell Tumor was discovered in JD’s front right paw. After consulting with board-certified surgeon Dr. D., we decided to move forward with surgery. While the surgery was successful in removing the majority of the tumor, due to the location, Dr. D. was unable to get a large enough margin to guarantee that all of the cancer was removed. Because of this, she has recommended radiation therapy.

Radiation therapy involves 18 one-hour/day sessions in which Jimmy Dean is lightly anesthetized and his paw is shot with a powerful x-ray, destroying the remaining cancerous cells.
If Jimmy Dean does not receive this treatment, there is a significant chance the mast cell tumor will return more aggressively and Jimmy Dean will lose his leg or it could spread and even become fatal.
Jimmy Dean needs your help to beat cancer. The surgery itself has already cost nearly $5,000, which we were fortunate enough to be able to pay.
The radiation treatment plus meds and recovery will total another $8,000.
Jimmy Dean is a young dog full of life who always has happy smile, a tail-wag, or a lean ready for his new friends.
