What are the WAKO World Championships?
The WAKO World Championships is a week-long competition that occurs every two years, with 900 competitors from over 40 countries represented. The events include full contact fighting, K-1 and low kick fighting, semi-contact (point) and light-contact (continuous) fighting, and forms and weapons. Since kickboxing is not an Olympic sport, this is essentially the Olympics for the sport of kickboxing.
Where are the WAKO World Championships?
A different set of countries host the World Championships every two years. This year, competition in WAKO's seven different kickboxing rule styles will be split between Sao Paulo, Brazil (end of September) and Antayla, Turkey (beginning of December).
Why do you need sponsorship? What will my sponsorship support?
Unlike the Olympics, the U.S. team doesn't get corporate or government funding for official sponsorship - it is left to the competitors to find sponsorship. Your donations will make you a sponsor of the U.S. National Kickboxing team! Your sponsorship will go towards airfare, lodging, uniforms and equipment, etc.
Can I sneak into your luggage and come to Brazil with you?
We'd love to have any and everyone be there in Sao Paolo, cheering on the U.S. Team and Jimi! Unfortunately, we realize this expectation is a bit high. But rest assured, all sponsors will receive daily updates (and lots of pictures and videos!) of the competition. All sponsors will also receive a DVD of the competition.
