Jessica Harris Walks!

Donación protegida
Jessica Harris is the type of person you meet once and never forget. Her smile has always brightened up a room and her dedication to her work and relationships with her friends and family is instantly apparent.

While enjoying a vacation in Hawaii on May 3, 2017, Jessica signed up to participate in the popular tourist attraction on Maui "Biking down the Haleakala Volcano".  A tragic accident occurred during her bike ride down the volcano which left Jessica with a T8 fracture in her spine and complete paralysis of her lower body.

Prior to her accident, Jessica was living and loving a life of independence and working in the hotel industry. Growing up in San Jose, she left home to attend college in Long Beach at the age of 17 and graduated from Cal State University, Sacramento with a degree in Hospitality. She left California shortly after graduation and took her first career-based job in Panama City Beach, FL. Her work has taken her on many adventures from living on the East Coast to the West Coast and various places in between. Jessica has always found joy in helping people, whether it be her family, friends, co-workers or vacationers. Jessica’s sense of adventure has brought her many friends and memorable life experiences. A bike excursion down the largest Volcano in Hawaii was just another example of Jessica seizing the moment and taking time to experience all that life has to offer.

Jessica's smile has been dimmed with the fear about her future and the unknown.  At the young age of only 29 years old, Jessica who is single, now faces the daily and constant onslaught of emotions and streams of thoughts associated with wrapping her head around the possibility of being paraplegic for the rest of her life.

The intensity of these is compounded further as Jessica struggles to figure out "how" she will ever be able to pay for her medical bills and be able to support herself and go back to living an independent life.  All at the same time as her healing journey has only just begun.

With nearly three months of intense physical and occupational therapy behind her and years and years more come, her next challenge lies in relearning how to do so much of what we all may take for granted. Seemingly simple things like getting in and out of the shower, keeping track of her blood pressure, getting to and from appointments, or meeting with family and friends.  All of these things have become major undertakings. Equipment is needed and must be purchased. Assistance is required which needs to be paid for.

Jessica’s incredibly positive outlook gives her and her family and friends some foundation of strength as she begins to heal. However, her recovery process will be prolonged. Jessica will need to continue rehabilitation activities indefinitely in order to keep her muscles from deteriorating. All of this also requires careful planning, and as mentioned, expensive but necessary therapeutic tools and support.

Jessica's goal is simple... Overcome the paralysis and walk again! Although Jessica's Doctors are still unsure whether this is possible, Jessica's determination to reach this outcome is unwavering!

Although "Who" Jessica was and "is" has not changed, the tremendous challenges she now faces alone is the reason why we, her closest friends & family,  have created this Go Fund Me page.

We are hoping to chip away at the mountain of medical costs she has accumulated since her accident. Our initial goal is to raise at least $10,000.00.  Even though this amount will only make a small dent in the medical bills she has already incurred since May 3, at this point we are setting realistic goals so that they can be attained. Any goal attained at this point is a huge win!  We hope that everyone's generosity helps exceed this goal.

Donations can be facilitated via PayPal or can be charged directly to any credit card.  Donations of $1 - $20 and even donations in the $100's or 1,000's  thousands are more appreciated than can even be expressed.  However please know that, all donations will provide a light in what has been a very dark and scary place for Jessica. Donations in any amount will be received as gifts from heaven!

Anything that you or someone you know can do or donate would be amazing.  Any efforts you or your friends can provide in helping us share Jessica's story to the world via social media in order to direct people to this Go Fund me Page might just help us all breathe some life into the possibility of Jessica's goal of a full recovery being realized.

Thank you all so much in advance for your help.
