Love for Jerzie Girl

Hi everyone,
I am a friend of Carey's, Jerzie's grandma, and together we have created this site to help support the Harp family.
As some of you may know, their Jerzie Girl has been going through some really tough medical issues for most of her life. At just 2 years old they discovered a mass on her liver and misdiagnosed it on two separate occasions. The family recently found out that the official diagnosis is mesenchymal hamartoma of the liver. It is a rare tumor that grows on the liver and will likely never stop growing. In most cases, the tumor remains benign but Jerzie has a chromosome abnormality (19q13.4). This means that in addition to the complications of a growth on her liver, she now faces the challenge of it possibly becoming malignant.
So after 4 years of being misdiagnosed, the tumor has now grown to the size of a baseball and covers multiple lobes of Jerzie's liver. Her surgeon in El Paso has recommended the next steps to take will be a trip to Boston where there is a team of specialists who deal exactly with this rare occurence in children. There, Jerzie will undergo a procedure to remove the tumor, which is too large and the removal too risky to be done in El Paso. They anticipate this trip will last 4-6 weeks at a minimum and will likely take place very soon after the holidays.
For those of us who know this family, we know what good people they are. Dad is a Combat EMT Sergeant in the Army having served 3 tours, Mom works really hard and does everything for her kids, and little Jerzie, at only 6 years old, is now facing this huge life challenge. This is a family of love and strength but they need our help.
The expenses involved in what's to come for Jerzie are bigger than most families can shoulder and we are asking for you to help us share Jerzie's story and get as much support for this family as possible. They have travel expenses to Boston, hotel and food costs, the loss of income while mom travels with her, not to mention the normal costs of living that will still need to be kept up on while this is happening. No amount is too small, everything helps!
