Help rebuild homes in Haiti

To my dear friends, family, and anyone who wants to help make a difference, I am asking you to help my father and his neighbours provide some relief to the victims of hurricane Matthew in Haiti. The New York Times is reporting that an estimated 1.4 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Reuters news agency has reported that at least 1,000 Haitians are dead. Haiti was still rebuilding following the 2010 earthquake. Newly and partially restored homes that have taken local families years to finance and rebuild were severely damaged or destroyed; Roofs were completely torn off, whole homes completely blown away and whole subdivisions reduced to rubble. Haiti’s present cholera epidemic is threatening many more lives with the contamination spread furiously by Hurricane Matthew. With the destruction of municipal services and roads, there is little if any communication, sanitation, power, food, or even drinking water available. Many towns remain inaccessible. What supplies that are getting through are only available at a hefty premium – up to ten times or more the original price.
In response we are arranging to ship supplies. We are hoping to receive donations of non-perishable items such as clothing for men, women, and children. Also candles, flashlight, first aid kits. Monetary donations would be incredibly helpful to assist with securing local building and construction supplies and services.
Just a few dollars (e.g. $5-$20) could make a real difference: provide some food, water, a piece of clothing, a pair of shoes. Whatever you can give would go a long way. Please feel free to email or message for more details. Thank You.
