Please help my daughter Misty and our sweet granddaughter Jenna! Jenna was born with spina bifida and is very sick. Jenna is 15 years old, they never thought she would even walk, and she has proven everybody wrong. Jenna is a strong young lady however one of the issues with Spina Bifida is she has a shunt running from her brain to her belly, draining the brain fluid off to avoid Hydrocephalus.
Jenna started with high fevers and abdominal pain, and now it has also been determined that Jenna’s shunt has failed. She was airlifted to Mayo Clinic in Rochester initially, where she spent several days. They did not seem to know how to treat a young lady with Jenna’s issues, and in our opinion, discharged Jenna far too soon and without knowing what was wrong with her, and no plan of making her well. Jenna was only home 2 days when she became acutely ill and her mother rushed her to Children’s hospital in St. Paul where she is right now. She has already had one surgery to repair a problem with her bladder, and Doctors are developing a plan to replace Jenna’s shunt. This is a very delicate surgery and will take several weeks of recovery.
Misty has four children, John, Jamie, Jenna, and Luke. She works two jobs, one for the Charles City School System and one for Fareway Grocery Store. Misty has spent every minute with Jenna. Misty needs to be by her side as she is the one that knows Jenna’s history best to support the Neurosurgeons. She will not leave Jenna’s side.
While Misty has been with Jenna she has been unable to work her two jobs. Her family is doing everything they can, but the bills are more than they can help with. She will likely incur additional expenses while she is off work including transportation, food, uncovered medical expenses, etc. Please consider donating, even the smallest amount will help. Misty is far too proud to ask for help, however without donations she is not sure what she will do.
