Jayden's Journey with Leukemia

0Jayden is a Happy, Handsome, Amazing 4 year old boy whose world changed in a matter of weeks. He is the toughest kid I have ever met. He was experiencing severe back pain for over 6 weeks and was brought to Kaiser San Francisco for an MRI on May 16th 2013. We got a call that he needed to be transferred to Kaiser Oakland as soon as possible as they found some tumors in his spine and pelvis and we needed to do more testing. After 3 Xrays, a CT scan, 2 MRIs, 2 Biopsies, a spinal tap, 3 IV lines and and many many blood tests, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) with Lymphomatous features. He has cancer in his blood stream and has 3 tumors- 2 on his spine between L2 and L4 and one on his pelvis. One of the tumors on his spine has grown into it, obstructing his spine, making walking, standing and sitting very painful. We are hoping that the chemo will quickly shrink this tumor, so the pain subsides. He will have to wear a back brace to protect his spine as the tumor shrinks leaving a gap in his bone. He will need to wear this brace until his bone grows back, if his spine collapses it could leave him paralyzed. We are hoping that with the advanced oncology treatments and amazing oncology team he can get through this! Along with this diagnosis is a lot of life changes. The hospital he is currently in and the clinic he will receive his treatments at is 50 miles from our house. We will have at least weekly visits to this clinic. Luckily his medical insurance will cover most costs, but with transportation, hotel, food and copayment expenses costs will quickly add up. Along with this he will need to stay home, out of school for a minimum of 8 months, leaving me no other choice but to stay home with him giving up half of our usual household income.
