Jaspers road to recovery

Hi we are the Perkins family! Our second son Jasper was born with a condition called Gastroschisis; his small intestines were outside his body. We found out from bloodwork that I had high Alpha-fyto proteins, so an ultrasound was done, that determined a portion of his bowels were out. Because of this he was going to have to be delivered in Victoria where there are specialized surgeons for his case. 3 hour drive from home.
Unfortunately he had a complication with his bowel on the outside towards the end of his gestation period, the hole began to close up and pinched off the small intestine that was outside and it died. This we believe caused him to come into the world early! I was flown into Victoria due to contractions in the morning of May 20th, later that night at 9:24 Jasper came out screaming! Born at 35 weeks 4 days, and only 4.6 lbs...this considered him a preemie baby but his lungs worked great! He was at a quick recovery from the surgery to remove the dead bowel and a stoma was made so he could empty his short(22cm!) bowels into a bag. He was hooked up to a broviac IV with TPN till he was healed enough to try breastmilk. Unfortunately tho he began to show signs that there was not enough small intestines to properly digest and aborsb nutrients from food and is going to have to be sent to Vancouvers childrens hospital where there are gastrointestinal specialists that have worked with his rare case many times. Expenses were just increased dramatically for us :( Daddy has to work too so he cannot visit very often here im Victoria and once Jasper is in Vancouver he will hardly ever get to due to ferry costs and time.
We are still stressfuly figuring things out day by day but we are starting to get worried about money... I never like asking for handouts but some family and friends were looking to help us out and I feel this way would be easier for everyone..
