My Mother, Janice Ries suffers from progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS) where she is paralyzed and is only able to move her eyes. She currently resides at Atkinson Good Samaritan Center in Nebraska and she has lived in Nursing Homes for over a decade.

It has come to our attention that there is Eye Tracking Communication Software that could enable her to communicate by staring at a certain part of a tablet's screen. We wish to purchase this for her, since her Medicaid insurance doesn't cover the cost due to new restrictions (that she lives in a Nursing Home which is considered a high care facility) enacted a couple of years ago.
We would be buying the Tobii Dynavox which includes an ipad device, a stand, the software and a warranty. There are two kinds of software- one has basic communication ($6,000.00) and the other is more advanced ($8,100.00) allowing her to facetime or Skype us, send us email 'texts', change the T.V. channel, and control the lights. The go-fund-me fee is 5% from each donation.
"Janice has been trapped in her body without the ability to communicate with friends, family members, spiritual mentors, and caregivers for years. The eye tracking device will allow her to communicate through a computer with a robotic voice, and she will be able to communicate her thoughts and needs to anyone who visits. Crystal and I took her to the appointment with the speech and language pathologist to see if she can use the device effectively to communicate, and all indications are that it will work for her! She has really been practicing moving her eyes to keep the eye muscles strong, and she has said repeatedly with her eye movement that she wants this device to communicate with all of us. I believe this is a worthwhile investment for Janice as she lives her confined life at Good Sam's. Thanks for all that you can contribute!"
